40th Anniversary of “ the square football posts ”

“ Which team is the strongest ? …
… Les Verts, obviously ! ”

[su_row][su_column size=”1/2″] Nearly 8000 supporters of the famous St Etienne Football team : les Verts gathered to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the “ Poteaux carrés “ in St Etienne.

Synopsis : Les Verts lost the 1976 European Cup Final versus the Bayern Munich after a highly emotional match marked by missed goal-scoring opportunities . After the final, French people called Hampden Park’s goalposts “les poteaux carrés” and the return to France of the unlucky football players was surprisingly heroic even though they were defeated.

This event was a great opportunity to bring together all the St Etienne football players of that time : Jean-Michel Larqué, Dominique Rocheteau, the Revelli brothers, Christian Lopez, Oswaldo Piazza, Jacques Santini, Dominique Bathenay, Christian Sarragmana, Ivan Curkovic …
Two giant LED screens located respestively at the back of the stage and in the middle of Place Jean Jaurès offered the crowd a fantactic view of the festivities and enable to go back over the milestone marking 4 decades of passion for les Verts !

And it doesn’t matter if those damn football posts prevented them from lifting the Cup !
